Born and raised in Barbados (b. 2000). Mackenzie is a designer at SOM.

Her West Indian upbringing has significantly influenced her approach to architecture. She takes pride in her openness to experimentation in technique and her dedication to answering big questions through architectural research.

Her personal interests and research lie in post-colonial landscapes, memory, and community. Mackenzie’s work delves into the rich cultural heritage and socio-political dynamics of the Caribbean region, especially her homeland, Barbados.

Combining her background in architecture and deep appreciation for the Barbadian community, Mackenzie employs various mediums including hand drawings, animation, photography, and mixed media to create visually compelling representational works.

She is constantly thinking about questions such as: How do landscapes influence the way we live? What are different forms of resistance in space? How can we reinterpret history to speculate/create radical futures? How can we value communities over property?
